Indonesia Expands Frozen Semen Trade: EAEU and Mercosur Diplomats Visit Singosari Artificial Insemination Center
Malang, Indonesia ââ¬â The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) of the Republic of Indonesia is strengthening its presence on the international stage. On February 12, several ambassadors from Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Mercosur countries visited the Singosari Artificial Insemination Center (BBIB Singosari) in Malang to observe Indonesia's advancements in livestock technology, particularly in artificial insemination (AI).
Diplomats from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina participated in the visit, showing keen interest in Indonesiaââ¬â¢s potential to enhance food security, especially in the livestock sector. BBIB Singosari was selected as the focal point due to its status as Indonesia's largest producer of frozen semen and its strong track record of international cooperation.
"BBIB Singosari is one of the largest artificial insemination centers and has established numerous partnerships with various countries. Therefore, we recommended this visit so the ambassadors could witness how AI technology is applied in Indonesia," said Nidya Kartikasari, Director of Intra-Regional Cooperation for the Americas and Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.
During the visit, the ambassadors toured BBIB Singosariââ¬â¢s frozen semen production facility and sperm bank. They expressed appreciation for Indonesiaââ¬â¢s advanced AI technology and BBIB's contribution to improving the productivity of the livestock sector.
"We are very impressed with the artificial insemination technology in Indonesia. I initially thought this was a new innovation, but it turns out this technology has been in use for a long time. This is an eye-opening experience for us," said George Prata, Ambassador of Brazil to Indonesia.
The Head of BBIB Singosari, Akbar, emphasized the center's critical role in developing Indonesiaââ¬â¢s beef and dairy farming industry.
"BBIB Singosari meets the majority of Indonesia's demand for frozen semen. We also have extensive experience in capacity-building collaborations with various countries," he explained.
Furthermore, Nidya noted that EAEU and Mercosur countries have strong expertise in food and agricultural industries.
"We hope this visit will pave the way for future cooperation, particularly in training programs and frozen semen exports to partner countries," she said.
In a separate statement, Agung Suganda, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Services at the MoA, highlighted Indonesiaââ¬â¢s commitment to expanding the international market for frozen semen.
"Indonesia has the capability to produce high-quality frozen semen that meets international standards. We are actively seeking partnerships with countries that can benefit from our expertise and technology in artificial insemination," Agung stated.
He also emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in strengthening the livestock sector, saying:
"The livestock industry plays a crucial role in national and global food security. Strengthening cooperation with EAEU and Mercosur countries will not only open new trade opportunities but also support knowledge exchange in livestock breeding and genetic improvement."
The EAEU is an economic bloc consisting of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, while Mercosur is a Latin American trade alliance comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
As Indonesia strengthens international collaboration, the Ministry of Agriculture is optimistic that the country can play a greater role in global food security through continued innovation in the livestock sector.
